We're open!

We were honored to have a large crowd of market supporters at our opening ceremonies today, including our special ribbon-cutting guests: TN Senator Rusty Crowe, UDSA Rural Development Area Director Joe Woody, Jonesborough Mayor Kelly Wolfe, and TN Commissioner of Agriculture Julius Johnson.  Ribbon proudly held in place by Karen Childress and Curtis Buchanan.

Not only did guests enjoy refreshments from local products, but they got to be the first shoppers....we added 3 new memberships and sold $1000 worth of local goods today! We're off and running!

Again, a sincere THANK YOU to the MANY, MANY donors, volunteers, board members and cheerleaders who have helped us get to this exciting moment--Now please come see us (and shop!) at Boone Street Market!

Hours are:  Monday-Friday, 10am-7pm, Saturdays (until May) 10am-5pm.

Thank you, everyone--
Karen

The map!

This is something Curtis has been making plans for since we first started thinking about a store: a map that shows a 50-and 100-mile radius around Jonesborough, with pins to show the location of the farms and producers that supply the store.

Well, now we've got it!  Jake Tittle created our map, Matt got it printed, and Curtis and I began putting pins in the map on Saturday.  Right now there are 40 producers "pinned" and we are not finished yet!

The map will greet you as you enter the store.  Come see it at the ribbon cutting on Weds (10/29 11am) or anytime thereafter!!!

Shelving, cleaning

Karen C and Karen T did some cleaning today!
Note our wonderful shelving, donated by Gabe & Charity of Good Fork Farm.  There are a total of 7 sturdy wooden units, on wheels to easily move around.

And look at that freshly-mopped floor and bright freezers....already holding some of the first deliveries of goods for next week!

New windows, fresh paint, and an opening date!!

The Town & the hard-working Dept of Corrections Carter County Community Service Crew that have been working for us since early July are very close to finished with the building renovation!
Recent milestones:
  • New double-pane glass is in the front windows
  • Fresh colors--Marcy Hawley's colorful design touch now extends to the outside of the building!
  • Garage doors weatherstripped and glass replaced
  • Heat & air system almost in
  • Walk-in Cooler is running!
The construction work should wrap up this week, and we'll be busy inside getting ready to open!
We invite you to our ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am on Oct 29th!

Storytelling Success!

We received LOTS of compliments and LOTS of business during Storytelling weekend! Was so much fun to open our doors for the first time!
THANK YOU to the many volunteers who worked very hard cooking, serving, selling.  We couldn't have done it without you!  Final expense figures aren't in, but all signs are this was a very prosperous weekend, shoring up needed funds to open the store!

We had a front-page story this morning!

What's next?  Another week or two of construction--HVAC still needs to go in, gas connection, range, water heater, new front windows, paint...then we'll open for real!

Come See us at Storytelling!

Boone Street Market will open its doors for the first time this weekend, with a fundraiser during the festival. We will be serving up some great home-made and locally-grown dishes all weekend, and invite all of you to drop by, have something to eat and check out our new store. We will be open Friday and Saturday 8am to 8pm, Sunday 8 to 4.
See our storytelling menu here.

Dona Eva will also be in the store with her tamales, and Kathy Waldo/The Fig Lady and will have a variety of treats for sale! Plus we'll have market tshirts, bags and one-of-a-kind market aprons custom made by Sophie & Grace.
As usual, a devoted team of volunteers and market contributors are behind this! A special thanks to our Store Advisory Board volunteer Karen Tallman for giving us the inspiration to tackle this, and doing so much to make it happen!  You don't want to miss her delicious soups, full of market ingredients!
