About Boone Street Market

Boone Street Market is a new venture that expands the market for local food in Jonesborough, TN!

Boone Street Market is an outgrowth of the Saturday Jonesborough Farmers Market--it is a year-round retail outlet that enables local growers to directly market their products while allowing greatly expanded shopping hours for customers. Boone Street Market opened for business on October 29, 2014.

At Boone Street Market, all items are identified by the grower, just like at the farmers market.  All farmers set their own product price and work with the manager to monitor and replenish their inventory.  The store includes a commercial kitchen that is used to make featured items out of the store's fresh ingredients, and is a place producers can rent to create their own value-added products.

Boone Street Market is part of Jonesborough Locally Grown, the nonprofit that operates the Jonesborough Farmers Market.  Just like the farmers market, Boone Street Market is operated for the benefit of its customers and growers.  It is staffed by a paid manager and an assistant, plus many volunteers. Operating costs are sustained by sales fees assessed to the growers and through membership support and fundraisers.

The Town of Jonesborough has partnered in renovating the store building, which a former Exxon station at 101 Boone St, Jonesborough.  The Town provides a $1 a year lease as well.

Other major supporters include the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, USDA Rural Development, the Washington County Commission, numerous individuals, civic groups, and banks.  For a full list of contributors, please see Donors and Sponsors, and to follow the history of the development of the project, please see the chronological postings in Project Updates
